    [01] Finance Minister - Libya

    Nicosia, Oct 24 (CNA) -- Cyprus Finance Minister Takis Klerides, who is currently visiting Libya, met yesterday with the Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the General People's Congress and the Secretary of People's External and International Cooperation Bureau Abdurrahman Shalgam, who acts as Minister for Foreign Affairs.

    [02] CYTA - New National Numbering Plan

    Nicosia, Oct 24 (CNA) -- As of December 1, 2001, Cyprus National Numbering Plan (NNP) will change and the "0" prefix will be abolished for all calls within Cyprus and 8-digit numbers will apply for all services.

    Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (CYTA) has announced that as of December 1, 2001, parallel to the operation of the new NNP, Cyprus will become a uniform charging zone for fixed telephony. Uniformity to charges for all fixed telephony calls, local and national, will be established. CIA/MK/MM/2001

    [03] Algeria - Cyprus problem

    Nicosia, Oct 24 (CNA) -- Prime Minister Ali Benplis reiterated Algeria's consistent support for a settlement of the Cyprus problem on the basis of UN resolutions and the principles of international law and reaffirmed that Algeria will continue to support more firmly within the Islamic Conference Organisation (ICO) its principled stand on Cyprus.

    Benplis was speaking at a meeting Monday with Cypriot veteran politician Vassos Lyssarides, honorary president of the Socialdemocrats Movement, who visited Algiers as special envoy of Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides and handed the Algerian prime minister a written message from Clerides, referring to the resolutions on Cyprus adopted by ICO.     [04] Commerce Minister - Food and drink industry - Seminar

    Nicosia, Oct 24 (CNA) -- Cyprus Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Nicos Rolandis said here today the food and drink industry is one of the main industries of Cyprus with a considerable contribution to exports and hence, it is absolutely vital that it adjusts as quickly as possible to the requirements of the European Union which basically concern hygiene, safety and consumer protection.

    Addressing a seminar on the regulatory environment of the European food and drink industry, Rolandis said a large number of Cypriot food and drink manufacturers are already taking measures to comply with the new regulatory framework and at the same time "are paying a lot of attention to the issues of quality and hygiene."| CNA/MK/TT/2001
