    [03] Defence Minister - US - Attack

Nicosia, Oct 8 (CNA) -- Increased security measures taken by the National Guard should not be considered as steps for war but simply heightened security measures, Defence Minister Socratis Hasikos said here today, adding that such moves are reasonable steps one is expected to take under the circumstances.

"We should not create by ourselves conditions of war and thereby spread panic or unnecessary anxiety," the minister said, noting that the National Guard's annual military exercises, scheduled to take place in the weeks ahead, will take place as planned.

The minister stressed that there is no reason to panic and cautioned against moves that do not take into account the current circumstances.
