[03] Cyprus - House President - Human Rights - Conference

Nicosia, Oct 6 (CNA) -- Cyprus House President Demetris Christofias called today for support in Cyprus' efforts for the execution of European Court of Human Rights' (ECHR) rulings, naming Turkey as a country blatantly violating human rights in Cyprus.

Addressing an International Conference on Human Rights, which took place today in the southern coastal town of Limassol, Christofias noted that since the Turkish invasion of the island in 1974, Turkey constantly violates Cyprus people's human rights and fundamental freedoms, such as their freedom of movement, settlement and property and exercises an inhuman policy of ethnic cleansing, while the presence and constant upgrading of its occupying forces on the island generates a feeling of insecurity.
