[01] Spokesman - Turkish Cypriots - "Military Court"

Nicosia, Aug 31 (CNA) -- Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said here today that Turkish Cypriot citizens of the Republic of Cyprus were taken today to a so-called "military court" in the Turkish occupied areas and were "charged" with possessing passports of the Republic.

Papapetrou denounced these tactics used by the illegal Turkish Cypriot regime and expressed the conviction that efforts aiming at alienating Turkish Cypriots from the Republic will fail. CNA/MK/RM/MM/2001

    [04] Spokesman - Denktash - Derogations

Nicosia, Aug 31 (CNA) -- Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou has stressed that the Government will not accept derogations from the acquis communautaire that would contradict the spirit and the letter of the acquis, adding that the government believes that the UN Secretary General's oral remarks, of last November, advocate this position as well.

Papapetrou described as "extreme, provocative and unacceptable" statements by Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash that Greek Cypriots should forget the occupied northern town of Kyrenia and relinquish hopes of returning to their homes, if a settlement is to be reached.
