[02] Chief EU Negotiator - Accession process
Nicosia, Aug 7 (CNA) -- Cyprus is progressing very well in its bid to amend
its legislation in line with European Union laws and regulations, Chief
Negotiator with the EU George Vasiliou has said, but warned that there is
still a lot of hard work ahead, especially with regard to taxation and
agriculture.
Vasiliou said 95 per cent of legislation, already passed by the House, is
being implemented, noting that Cyprus has already closed provisionally 23
out of 29 chapters and pointing out that 50 per cent of the acquis
communautaire relates to fisheries, the environment, both of which Cyprus
have closed, and agriculture, which is expected to close provisionally next
year.

[03] Syrian Oil Minister - Departure
Larnaca, Aug 7 (CNA) -- Syrian Oil and Mineral Resources Minister Mohamad
Ìaher Jamal said at the conclusion of his visit here that Syria and Cyprus
will put more effort to reach an agreement on the supply of natural gas to
Cyprus and promised to increase the supply of crude oil products to the
island.
Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Nicos Rolandis said Cyprus and
Syria are opening a "new important chapter on energy" and added that an
arrangement has to be reached by next year on the supply of natural gas,
pointing out this is a necessity for Cyprus.
