    Nicosia, Jul 31 (CNA) -- The National Council concluded today a series of meetings during which it examined various issues on its agenda, which is confidential, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides said here today, after a four- hour long meeting of the top advisory body to the President on the handling of the Cyprus problem.

    "As already announced, the Council will not make any announcements about the items on its agenda or about the decisions it takes or it does not take, " the Minister said. CNA MM/ÌÊ/2001

    [03] Foreign Minister - Cypriots - Bahrain

    Nicosia, Jul 31 (CNA) -- The Foreign Ministry through its consular office, representing the Republic, is following developments in the case of two Cypriots who have been detained in Bahrain, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides said here today.

    "We have no further news about the two Cypriots, today. The consular authorities representing the Republic are monitoring closely the developments in this case with a view to protect all the legal rights of the Cypriot citizens," he told the press, questioned on the matter. CNA MM/ÌÊ/2001

    [05] Foreign Minister - Syria - Visit

    Nicosia, Jul 31 (CNA) -- Issues of mutual concern, the Cyprus question, the situation in the Middle East and other regional developments will be on the agenda of discussions Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides will have during his official visit to Syria.

    The minister, who leaves this afternoon for the Syrian capital, said he flies to Syria "a particularly friendly neighbour county to discuss a series of issues of mutal interest."

    [06] Ministers - Sales - Purchases - Property

    Nicosia, Jul 31 (CNA) -- The government is not concerned at this stage about press reports regarding alleged property dealings between Greek and Turkish Cypriots in the Republic's northern Turkish occupied areas, as well as in the southern government controlled part of the island, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides said here today, adding that the ministry does not have any information before it to justify any legitimate concerns.

    Speaking on the same matter, Interior Minister Christodoulos Christodoulou said the government will examine carefully a questionnaire submitted to it by the House Refugee Committee and announced that since the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus there have been 88 cases of Turkish Cypriots selling their land in the government controlled areas to Greek Cypriots.     [07] Cyprus - Syrian Minister of Petroleum - Visit

    Nicosia, Jul 31 (CNA) -- Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of the Syrian Arab Republic Dr Mohamad Maher Jamal will pay a three-day official visit to Cyprus from August 5 to 7.

    During his stay here, Jamal will be received by the President of the Republic Glafcos Clerides and will hold talks on energy matters with Cyprus Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Nicos Rolandis.

    [09] Kasoulides - Damascus - Departure

    Nicosia, Jul 31 (CNA)-- Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides flew to Damascus early this evening for a two-day official visit, during which he will have talks with his Syrian counterpart, Farouk al Shara, on the situation in the Middle East, the Cyprus problem and other regional developments.

    Speaking to journalists earlier today about the visit, Kasoulides said he was going to Syria, "a particularly friendly neighbour, to discuss issues of mutual interest" and to review the existing excellent bilateral relations between Nicosia and Damascus.

    [10] Australian Premier - Cyprus problem

    Nicosia, Jul 31 (CNA) -- Australia's special envoy for Cyprus Jim Short is currently preparing a report identifying ways in which Australia might be able to assist further in resolving the Cyprus dispute, Australian Federal Prime Minister John Howard has said.

    In a message conveyed during a memorial service in Sidney, for those killed during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, Howard said the Australian government strongly supports United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan's efforts to encourage meaningful dialogue and find a peaceful solution.
