[03] EU - Turkey Association Council - Cyprus
Brussels, Jun 26 (CNA) -- The European Union has called on Turkey to
contribute towards a settlement in Cyprus, saying that Ankara's relations
with the Union have a lot to do with the question of Cyprus and human
rights in Turkey.
EU enlargement Commissioner Gunter Verheugen pointed out to Turkish Foreign
Minister Ismail Cem the need to solve the Cyprus issue prior to the
accession of Cyprus but also reminded him that a political settlement would
facilitate Cyprus' accession but it is not a priority.
