[04] Missing persons - Organisation - Petition
Nicosia, Jun 20 (CNA) -- Members of the Pancyprian Organisation of
Relatives of Undeclared Prisoners and Missing Persons handed here today a
petition to representatives of the Embassies of the five permanent members
of the UN Security Council in Nicosia as well as to the Head of the
European Commission Delegation to Cyprus, Ambassador Donato Chiarini,
expressing the bitterness and agony of the thousands of relatives of
missing persons for the standstill to this humanitarian problem "the
continuation of which constitutes a flagrant violation of Human Rights."
The petition called upon the "5" of the Security Council and the EU "to
perform a serious role in putting an end at long last to this tragic
problem by the securement of the needed convincing information as to what
happened to all the missing," noting that this was clearly provided by
International Conventions and UN Resolution and Declarations.
