1555:CYPPRESS:01[01]EU Summit - Conclusionsby Maria Koniotou Gothenburg, Jun 16 (CNA) - The EU Summit that concluded today in Gothenburg reaffirmed the road map set out in the Nice Summit as the framework for the successful completion of the enlargement process and said this map should make it possible to complete negotiations by the end of 2002 for those candidate countries that were ready, with the objective being their participation in the European Parliament elections of 2004 as members. In the conclusions adopted by the Summit, it is also noted that the enlargement process is irreversible and that candidate countries would continue to be judged solely on their own merits, while a paragraph referring to Turkey's bid to join the Union said good progress had been made in implementing the pre-accession strategy for Turkey and urged the country to take concrete measures to implement the priorities of the Accession Partnership, noting that in a number of areas such as human rights further progress was needed.
