    [01] Weather forecast for Cyprus

    Íicosia, May 7 (CNA) - The Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport has issued the following weather forecast for Cyprus:

    Ôuesday and Wednesday: 08/05/2001 to 09/05/2001

    Showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected throughout the period. Southwesterly to westerly fresh to strong breezes will prevail. State of sea moderate to rough. Maximum temperatures will range between 22C and 24C, while minimum temperatures between 12C and 14C.

    Outlook for Thursday and Friday: 10/05/2001 to 11/05/2001

    Similar weather conditions are expeced, with no significant change in temperature.

    [02] President Clerides - US ambassador

    Nicosia, May 7 (CNA) - Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides had an hour-long meeting today with US ambassador in Nicosia Donald Bandler and Greek American Tom Korologos.

    Bandler told reporters they discussed the Cyprus problem and that this is Korologos' first opportunity to visit Cyprus, but refrained from replying to questions.

    [03] SOCCER: Omonia - Cyprus Champions

    Nicosia, May 7 (CNA) - Nicosia football club Omonia have won their 18th championship beating at home Aris of Limassol 4-1 in the last match of the Cyprus League.

    Omonia founded in 1948 won the Cyprus title for the first time in eight years, clinching 57 points in 26 games. They scored 60 goals and conceded 27. The League's first scorer was Omonia's German striker Rainer Rauffman with 30 goals.

    [04] Parliamentary elections - Candidacies

    Nicosia, May 7 (CNA) -- The countdown to this month's parliamentary elections started here today with the submission of candidacies by some 448 parliamentary hopefuls, aspiring to get one of the 56 seats in the House of Representatives.

    There are also about ten independent candidates.

    [05] President Clerides - AHEPA Greek Americans

    Nicosia, May 7 (CNA) – President of the Greek American organisation AHEPA, Johnny Economy, today pledged to continue efforts for a just and viable solution that would reunite Cyprus and to back efforts to improve relations between Greece and Turkey.

    Speaking after a meeting an AHEPA delegation, on an annual visit to Cyprus, had with President Glafcos Clerides, Economy said the intransigence shown by the Turkish side in the UN effort for peace is of their concern and said they will work "to make sure to reunite this island, if nothing else for the sake of our children."
