    [02] Cyprus - France - Foreign Ministers

    Nicosia, Apr 27 (CNA) -- French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hubert Vendrine, has said that a solution to the Cyprus problem is not a prerequisite for the island's accession to the European Union (EU), noting however that the 15 member states considered it wise to examine their position on the issue again when the accession talks are completed.

    Speaking at a press conference with his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides after completing a two-day official visit here, Vendrine said his country supports efforts for a settlement to the protracted Cyprus problem and expressed regret over Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash's withdrawal from the UN talks aimed at reaching a settlement on the island.

    [03] Cyprus Airways - Poland - Flights

    by Costas Stavrinos Nicosia, Apr 27 (CNA) -- The inauguration of Cyprus Airways' flights to Poland twice a week will enhance relations between the peoples of the two countries and strengthen tourism from Poland to Cyprus, Minister of Communications and Works Averof Neophytou has said.

    Speaking at a ceremony held yesterday at "Friderik Chopin" airport in Warsaw right after Cyprus Airways' first flight to Poland, Neophytou said that within the framework of their accession to the European Union the two countries share the common vision of liberalising flights.     [04] Cyprus - Kazakhstan - New ambassador

    Nicosia, Apr 27 (CNA) -- Kazakhstan supports and will continue to support a settlement in Cyprus based on UN resolutions calling for a bicommunal, bizonal federation, the country's Vice-President A. Kekilbayev has said, receiving the credentials of the new Cyprus ambassador to his country, Charalambos Ioannides, who is based in Moscow.

    According to an official press release issued today, speaking at a ceremony held in Astana, on Thursday, Ioannides expressed gratitude for Kazakstan's support to Cyprus' struggle for finding a just and viable solution to the Cyprus issue.

    [05] Cyprus - Round Table - Council of Europe - Sport

    Nicosia, Apr 27 (CNA) -- Means of combating racism, intolerance and violence in sport were adopted today at the 3rd Round Table discussion held in Nicosia, with the participation of Ministers and representatives from 33 member states of the Council of Europe.

    Speaking at a press conference given at the end of the Round Table discussion, Cyprus Minister of Education and Culture Ouranios Ioannides said participants agreed to ask their governments to provide financial support to NGOs working in sport, tolerance, fair play and anti-racism and to seek cooperation from the media, which has a vital role to play in promoting such values.
