    [03] Cyprus - European Commission - Economy

    Brussels, Apr 25 (CNA) -- Cyprus' economic medium term prospects are good and growth in 2002 is expected to recover to the levels enjoyed in recent years, the European Commission said in its report on the economies of the countries under accession to the EU for 2001 and its prospects until 2002.

    According to the report Cyprus' economic growth is expected to be more restrained in 2001 than compared to recent years, fiscal policy will remain tight, while Cypriot economy is becoming increasingly dependant upon tourism and external vulnerability is growing. CNA/NM/RM/GP/2001

    [04] Spokesman - UN - Protest

    Nicosia, Apr 25 (CNA) -- The UN has made strong representations to the Turkish Cypriot side because it has contravened the terms of an agreement banning the use of the illegal flag of the self-styled regime in occupied Cyprus in Pyla village, inhabited by Greek and Turkish Cypriots.

    "The Foreign Ministry has protested the hoisting of the flag of the regime and the use of flags at the local Turkish Cypriot primary school in Pyla, against what was agreed by all concerned," Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said here today.

    [05] Spokesman - UN report - Angola

    Nicosia, Apr 25 (CNA) -- The government is looking into a UN report concerning the situation in Angola that Cyprus registered offshore companies are said to be involved in the illegal sale of arms to UNITA rebels in Angola, Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said here today.

    He also said the Republic of Cyprus implements all UN Security Council resolutions with regard to sanctions relating to the situation in Angola, following a cabinet decision and responds immediately when the UN asks for information.
