[04] Assize Court - Turkish Cypriot

Larnaca, Feb 9 (CNA) - The Assize Court today rejected a testimony presented by the police in the case of Turkish Cypriot Omer Tekogul, believing it was not given at will and could therefore not be accepted as evidence.

The Court, convening in Larnaca, decided it would not be safe to accept the 42- year-old's testimony to the police, as doubts have been raised concerning the conditions under which it was taken. It said the prosecution could not prove beyond any doubt that the testimony was the product of Tekogul's free will.
