[01] Cabinet - Third children benefit

Nicosia, Feb 7 (CNA) - The Council of Ministers today decided to give families a monthly benefit of 30 Cyprus pounds and 74 cent for a third child in an effort to increase the number of births. (One pound trades at about 1,60 US dollars)

Announcing the decision, Labour and Social Insurance Minister Andreas Mousiouttas said the allowance applies only for the third child and underlined that the government aims at having families with four children and over.

He said today's Cabinet decision will cost the government some 7,3 million pounds, while some 17.770 new families or 18.420 children will benefit.
