The Cyprus News Agency wishes its subscribers, the diplomatic missions and press offices of Cyprus abroad and the organisations of Cypriot expatriates, a merry Christmas and a happy new year 2001 in a free and united Cyprus.

Instead of sending Christmas cards, CNA will make a donation to a charitable organisation.

The Agency will be closed on December 25 and 26, as well as on January 1.

    [03] Cyprus government - Pyla

Nicosia, Dec 19(CNA) - The Cyprus government today appeared satisfied with the fact that tensions in a village east of the island, bordering the Turkish occupied areas and inhabited by both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, are starting to defuse.

Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou told his daily briefing that it seems the Turkish occupation forces have stopped constructing new military posts in Pyla, but underlined that the government insists on its demand that everything illegally constructed is destroyed. CNA/MA/RG/2000
