Washington, Dec 15 (CNA) - The US has said that the interests of both Turkey and the Turkish Cypriots are best served through the continuation of the UN-led peace talks on Cyprus and expressed hope that the Turkish side would restore the status quo ante in the region of Strovilia, where it illegally set up a new barrier.

Replying to questions Thursday, State Department Spokesman Richard Boucher also expressed support to the mission of the UN peace-keeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) and said measures imposed against the Force by the Turkish side should be lifted in accordance with a Security Council resolution adopted two days ago renewing UNFICYP's mandate for another six months.

Nicosia, Dec 15 (CNA) -- Cyprus and Latvia signed here today cooperation agreements in the fields of merchant shipping and transnational road transports.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Cyprus Minister of Communications and Works Averof Neophytou and Latvian Transport Minister Anatolijs Gorbunovs underlined the importance of these agreements in strengthening relations between the two countries in these fields.
