    [01] Vassiliou - EU - Budapest

    Nicosia, Dec 9 (CNA) -- Cyprus' Chief Negotiator for accession to the European Union (EU) George Vassiliou leaves tomorrow for Budapest to attend a meeting with Chief Negotiators of the six countries of the first wave of accession into the EU, which will take place on December 11.

    During the meeting, the Chief Negotiators will deal with issues concerning EU enlargement and the accession course of the first six candidate countries and the conclusions of the EU Summit which takes place in Nice. CNA/RM/MM/2000

    [02] European Council - Conclusions

    By Rebekah Gregoriades Nice, Dec 9 (CNA) - The European Union (EU) presidency conclusions of the Nice European Council Meeting, which were approved yesterday, will be adopted today, with a reference on Cyprus, in which the European Council welcomes and "strongly supports the efforts of the UN Secretary-General to achieve an overall agreement on the Cyprus problem".

    The reference, which has been included in the "External Relations" chapter, notes that the settlement to be reached should be "consistent with the UN Security Council Resolutions" and that the European Council supports UN efforts "to arrive at a positive conclusion of the process initiated in December 1999".     [03] Libyan Delegation - Visit

    Nicosia, Dec 9 (CNA) -- A Libyan delegation arrives here today to have meetings with the President of the House of Representatives Spyros Kyprianou, ministers and party leaders.

    The visit aims at "contributing, to a great extent, to enhancing traditional friendly relations between the two countries".

    [04] Albanian deputies - Visit

    Nicosia, Dec 9(CNA) -- An Albanian delegation, led by the President of the Parliament Skender Gjinushi, arrives here tomorrow, after an invitation of the President of the House of Representatives Spyros Kyprianou, who is to receive the Albanian MPs on Monday morning.

    The delegation will also meet the President and members of the House Foreign and European Affairs Committee and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs Ioannis Kasoulides and Commerce, Industry and Tourism Nicos Rolandis.

    [05] AKEL Congress - Cyprus - Resolution

    Nicosia, Dec 9 (CNA) - Left wing representatives from 43 countries, who gathered here, have stressed that the only way to find a peaceful, just, viable and mutually accepted solution of the protracted Cyprus problem is through substantive bicommunal negotiations under UN auspices.

    A resolution, adopted today by the 19th Congress of the main opposition left wing party AKEL, also said the current status quo on the island is "unacceptable and the most unachronistic and destructive choice for the people of Cyprus."

    [06] EU - French Proposal - Votes - Seats

    By Rebekah Gregoriades Nice, Dec 9 (CNA) - The proposal submitted by French President Jacques Chirac for the future structure of the European Parliament and the European Council, provides for six Parliamentary seats and three Council votes for Cyprus.

    Chirac submitted his proposal today to the Nice European Council, regarding the Intergovernmental Conference and the institutional reforms, in an enlarged European Union (EE). CNA/RG/MM/2000
