CNA/ÌÁ/2000 1540:CYPPRESS:02[02] Cyprus - Varosha - UN - ProtestNicosia, Dec 7 (CNA) - The UN have frequently protested to the Turkish military authorities in Turkish occupied Cyprus in connection with moves made in violation of the status quo of the fenced area of Famagusta, Varosha, on the east of the island, UN spokeswoman Sarah Russell told CNA today.She also said some of the UN protests were taken into consideration and acted upon but others went unheeded, adding that the UN has had several contacts with the government of Cyprus on Varosha, the fenced area of the city of Famagusta which has remained uninhabited since the 1974 Turkish invasion and occupation of part of the island.
