[01] Famagusta Mayor - Cyprus - Australia - UK
Nicosia, Nov 30 (CNA) - Australia supports the independence, sovereignty,
unity and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus, while the UK
urges all parties involved in the UN-led talks for a settlement on the
island to cooperate with the UN constructively and flexibly.
Australia' s stance on Cyprus is expressed in a replying letter by Patrick
Cole, Assistant Secretary, Pacific, Rest of the World and Multilateral
Branch of the Australian Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet on
behalf of Australian Prime Minister John Howard to Andreas Pouyouros, Mayor
of the occupied eastern town of Famagusta, who had earlier sent him a
letter stressing the continuation of the Turkish occupation.
