    [01] Cyprus - EU - Protest

London, Nov 22 (CNA) - Nicosia is to protest remarks by the European Commission President Romano Prodi, who said earlier this week that accession of a divided Cyprus could cause tension within the European Union.

Speaking to London Greek Radio, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides said he has instructed the Republic's Ambassador to Brussels to make demarches to Prodi's office for his statements, carried in an interview with an Athens newspaper.

[02] Cyprus Foreign Minister - EU

London, Nov 22 (CNA) - Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides has warned against Turkish moves to intimidate the European Union regarding Cyprus' accession to the EU and subsequently its own candidacy.

The minister also said the Cyprus problem is a European concern, irrespective of whether the Republic is a member-state of the EU or not, noting the issue involves two EU members (Greece and Britain) and two candidates (Cyprus and Turkey).

Nicosia, Nov 22 (CNA) - A meeting took place this morning at the Presidential Palace, under President Glafcos Clerides, to decide on measures to strengthen the Cyprus Republic's ability to stop the influx of illegal immigrants.
