[01] Turkish Cypriot leader - Cyprus' EU aspiration

By Maria Myles Geneva, Nov 7 (CNA) -- Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash today claimed that Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides' priority is not a settlement to the Cyprus question but the Republic's accession to the European Union (EU).

Speaking to reporters before his meeting at the UN office here with the Secretary-General's special adviser for Cyprus Alvaro de Soto, who is conducting the peace talks, Denktash repeated his unacceptable view that the Republic should join the EU after a settlement is reached and cannot become a member while divided.

    [04] Cyprus peace talks - New non-paper - President's meetings

Geneva, Nov 7 (CNA) -- The Greek Cypriot side received here today a non- paper on the judiciary the UN has prepared in the context of the ongoing UN proximity talks on the Cyprus question, aiming at finding a comprehensive settlement on the island.

The non-paper, prepared by a team led by UN Secretary General's Special Adviser on Cyprus Alvaro de Soto to sound out the Greek Cypriot side on the ideas incorporated in the document, has been described by CNA sources as rather satisfactory, even though it contains elements on which comments will be made and clarifications will be sought.
