    [03] Spokesman - Cyprus question

    Nicosia, Oct 19 (CNA)- President Glafcos Clerides will have a meeting with Greek Premier Costas Simitis after the conclusion of the fifth round of UN- sponsored proximity talks, due to end on 10 November, Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou announced here today.

    "Nicosia and Athens coordinate their moves, they have decided on how to handle developments and at the end of the talks, they will analyse jointly the conclusions," Papapetrou told his daily press briefing.

    [04] German State Minister - Cyprus EU negotiator

    Nicosia, Oct 19 (CNA) - Germany would like to see Cyprus reunited and its people, Greek and Turkish Cypriots, enjoy the same rights, German State Minister for Foreign Affairs Christoph Zoepel said here today, adding that he expects the solution of the Cyprus question to be on the basis of UN positions.

    Zoepel also said the two sides should go back to the negotiating table with proposals to help the talks, which resume in Geneva in early November, succeed.

    [05] Military manoeuvres - Greek warplanes

    Nicosia, Oct 19 (CNA)- Turkish military jets harassed today two Greek air force fighters on their way to Cyprus to participate in the annual military manoeuvres of the National Guard, the Republic's armed forces.

    "Turkish fighters tried to buzz two A-7 Corsair jets as they were flying towards Cyprus for the exercise," a spokesman for the Defence Ministry told CNA today.

    [06] Cyprus - EU - Air transport protocol

    Nicosia, Oct 19 (CNA)- Cyprus and the European Union initialed here today a protocol on the liberalisation of air transport, expected to be signed early next year and put into effect as of 2002.

    "This is part of a much wider agreement to include all candidate countries and EU members and we hope to develop a European market, a good air transport market," Frederik Sorensen, EU Director of Air Transport said at the end of two days of discussions with Cypriot officials to conclude the agreement.

    [07] Military manoeuvres - Greek F-16

    Nicosia, Oct 19 (CNA) - Four F-16 of the Greek Air Force participated in "Nikiforos 2000" the annual military manoeuvres of the National Guard, the Republic's armed forces, which started on Tuesday and end on Saturday.

    A Defence Ministry spokesman told CNA today "the four warplanes, flying in formation of two, flew over the wider area of Paphos and Limassol on the west and south of the island" this afternoon.

    [08] Greece - Turkey - EU - Cyprus

    Nicosia, Oct 19 (CNA) - Turkey's partnership agreement with the European Union were part of the discussions Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou had in Athens today with EU Enlargement Commissioner Gunter Verheugen with a view to press on with the views of the Greek government on the matter.

    Meanwhile in Cyprus, Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said the government is monitoring developments on the issue and seeks to secure the best possible result.
