Nicosia, Jul 30 (CNA) -- The people of Cyprus have no more room for
concessions in their effort to reach a peaceful and lasting settlement of
the protracted Cyprus question, Yiannakis Omirou, deputy president of the
Socialdemocrats Movement, said here today, reiterating the late Archbishop
Makarios' words 23 years ago.
In his eulogy, at a memorial service marking Makarios' death, Omirou said
recent developments in the Cyprus issue should rally together all Hellenes,
at home and abroad, to ensure the survival of Cyprus and safeguard its
rights.

Nicosia, Jul 30 (CNA) -- Cyprus has presented its national report to the UN
on the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action, outlining
progress achieved and areas where more action is needed to promote women's
rights to a greater extent and ensure increased participation of women in
the decision-making bodies.
The 80-page report, divided into three main parts, gives a brief overview
of efforts to achieve gender equality, presents the financial and
instutional measures available to women and sets out views and information
on the twelve critical areas of concern, relating to women. MM/ITS/2000
