0950:CYPPRESS:01[01] Culture Minister - Archaeologists - Turkish occupied areasNicosia, Jul 28 (CNA) - Cyprus Education and Culture Minister, Ouranios Ioannides, has stressed in a written statement that illegal excavations at the site of one of Cyprus' ancient city-kingdoms, Salamis, in the areas occupied by Turkey, "constitute a continuous illegality against the rights and property of Cypriots and the French Archaeological Mission of the University of Lyon".The French archaeological team had been carrying out excavations in Cyprus, in cooperation with the Antiquities Department of the Republic, before the 1974 Turkish invasion and occupation of the northern third of the island.
