0900:CYPPRESS:01[01] Cyprus problem - Proximity talks - G/C side's positionsby Myria Antoniadou Geneva, Jul 23 (CNA) -- President of the Republic Glafcos Clerides will repeat the Greek Cypriot side's positions on the Cyprus issue, based on UN resolutions and the Secretary General's reports, in the proximity talks resuming in Geneva on Monday, when the two sides will be asked to comment on the "thoughts" put forward by Alvaro de Soto, the UN chief's Special Adviser who is conducting the meetings.According to sources, the Cyprus President will read out his positions, that are based on the outcome of a discussion at the National Council, his top advisory body on the Cyprus issue, comprising parliamentary party leaders, encouraging a discussion with de Soto as his thoughts are not considered clear cut. CNA/MA/MK/RG/2000 1035:CYPRESS:02 Agriculture Minister - Regional Conference Nicosia, Jul 23 (CNA) - Cyprus Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment, Costas Themistocleous, departs today for Portugal where he will represent Cyprus at the 22nd Regional Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations for Europe, taking place in Porto between 24 and 28 of July. Participants at the conference will look into agricultural problems in the countries of Europe, evaluate the programmes and projects implemented by the Organisation during the period 1998 - 99, formulate policy, and set the working programme and budget of FAO for the years 2002 and 2003. CNA/RG/2000 1200:CYPPRESS:04[04] Defence Minister - Brussels - SolanaLarnaca, Jul 23 (CNA) - Cyprus Defence Minister, Socratis Hasikos, departed today for Brussels, where he will meet tomorrow with Western European Union (WEU) General Secretary and European Union high representative for Common Foreign Policy and Security Policy, Javier Solana.Speaking on his departure from Larnaca Airport, Hasikos said he would discuss with Solana latest developments in the Cyprus problem, the island's European Union accession course, and issues concerning European defence and security, adding that he would express "the will of the Cyprus government to contribute in the whole effort of the European Union for common security policy and other issues related to defence".
