    [03] EU - Cyprus - Statistics

    Brussels, Jul 20 (CNA) - Cyprus has the highest per capita income among the 13 European Union candidate countries and its citizens have the highest purchasing power, not only compared to the other candidate countries but also residents of member states, such as Greeks and Portuguese.

    Statistics made public here today by the European Commission confirm that Cyprus not only satisfies the economic conditions for accession, but it could become a member of the Euro-zone.

    [04] EU - Verheugen - Cyprus

    London, Jul 20 (CNA) -- European Union Commissioner responsible for enlargement Gunter Verheugen has warned the Turkish Cypriots that the option of joining the Union together with Turkey is an illusion.

    Replying to questions at a press conference in London today, Verheugen also said he is reasonably optimistic that a solution will be found in Cyprus.

    [05] Bank of Cyprus - Athens Stock Exchange

    Nicosia, Jul 20 (CNA) - The Athens Stock Exchange (ASE) board today approved the listing of the particulars of the Bank of Cyprus (BOC) Group for the listing of its shares to its main market, the Bank Chairman Solon Triantafyllides announced at a press conference in Nicosia.

    He said the listing particulars will now have to be approved by the Greek Capital Markets Committee and once both approvals are obtained BOC in consultation with the ASE will decide and announce the exact date of the issue.

    National Council - Cyprus peace talks Nicosia, Jul 20 (CNA) - Political party leaders will accompany Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides to Geneva for the UN-led proximity talks scheduled to resume next Monday, July 24.

    Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou announced after a two-and-a-half- hour session this afternoon of the National Council, top advisory body to the Cyprus President on the Cyprus question, that four out of five parliamentary parties participating in the Council replied positevely to President Clerides's invitation to accomapny him to Geneva.
