[01] Missing Persons - List
Nicosia, Jul 6 (CNA) -- The official list of missing persons of the 1974
Turkish invasion of Cyprus is expected to be published next week,
Presidential Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs Takis Christopoulos has
said, explaining the list will either be incorporated in the official
government Gazette or be published in a special edition of the Gazette.
Christopoulos told CNA today, the list includes 1.490 persons, of the
original number of 1.619 persons, excluding 126 persons whose files were
not submitted to the Committee of Missing Persons for investigation into
the circumstances of their disappearance.

[03] New Cyprus Ambassador - Armenia
Nicosia, Jul 6 (CNA)- Armenian President Robert Kocharyan today expressed
his country's wish to further strengthen bilateral relations with Cyprus in
the economic and commercial sectors.
Accepting the credentials of the new Ambassador of Cyprus in Moscow, also
accredited to Armenia Charalambos Ioannides, Kocharyan referred to the
friendly relations between the two countries and reaffirmed that his
country would continue to support a just solution to the Cyprus problem,
based on the principles of international law and UN Security Council
resolutions.

[04] Cyprus Rally 2000
Nicosia, Jul 6 (CNA) - Enthusiasts from around the world will be flooding
the island in September, for the Cyprus Rally 2000, which is the only World
Championship event in close proximity to the Near and Middle East, thus
providing rally-lovers in the region the opportunity to come to Cyprus to
watch the event.
The Rally, to take place September 7-10, will be entirely based in the
coastal town of Limassol, where the organisers have taken over most of the
large hotels on the sea front to accommodate the World Rally teams, Rally
Headquarters and media representatives.
The Cyprus Rally 2000 press office announced that several team
representatives have already been to Cyprus to see the route, which
comprises 23 stages totaling 352 kilometers, and enthusiasm is growing
among the drivers.

[05] Proximity talks - De Soto - Denktash
by Myria Antoniadou Geneva, Jul 6 (CNA) -- Special Adviser to the UN
Secretary General on Cyprus Alvaro de Soto met today with Turkish Cypriot
leader Rauf Denktash during the second day of the third round of UN-led
proximity talks.
De Soto and Denktash has a 30-minute private meeting before being joined
for an hour-long meeting by the Turkish Cypriot delegation.

[06] Greek Foreign Minister - US Undersecretary - Cyprus
Athens, Jul 6 (CNA) - US Undersecretary of State, Jim Dobbins, said today
that the US role in the Cyprus problem "is a supportive one", noting that
"we are not a participant, we are not coming forward with proposals".
Referring to the UN-led proximity talks on the Cyprus problem, Dobbins said
"we are encouraging both sides to come forward with proposals and
encouraging the UN to play the role of a neutral broker in an effort to
promote those negotiations".

[07] Cyprus - Talks
by Myria Antoniadou Geneva, Jul 6 (CNA) - The UN-led proximity talks on
Cyprus, that were opened Wednesday by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, went
into another phase at today's meetings as the two sides began to hand in
the "homework" they were asked to do on the four core issues under
discussion.
The talks are continuing in the format used last December and February,
that is separate meetings between the UN chief's Special Adviser for Cyprus
Alvaro de Soto with the President of the Republic Glafcos Clerides and
Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash, and under a strict news blackout.

[08] Fuel - Prices
Nicosia, Jul 6 (CNA) - The plenary session of the House of Representatives
today passed the new fuel prices, with 24 votes for and 17 abstentions.
The House decided to increase petrol and unleaded petrol prices by 3 cents
to 44 cents per litre and diesel by 2 cents to 17 cents per litre,
according to the proposals of the Commerce, Industry and Tourism Ministry.

[09] Strovilia - UN - Cyprus Ambassadors
by Myria Antoniadou Geneva, Jul 6 (CNA) - The Cyprus Republic's Ambassadors
to the five UN Security Council permanent member states were expected to
raise today Turkish violations of the status quo in Strovilia village, with
the governments of the countries they are accredited to, according to
sources.
The UN consider the whole issue as a serious violation of the status quo on
the island and have been working towards the restoration of the situation
as it was until last week with consultations both on the island and abroad.
