UN envoy - Press Conference - Cyprus talks (1) by Myria Antoniadou
Geneva Jul 5 (CNA) -- The UN will hear out the Greek and Turkish Cypriot
sides on certain questions they were asked to do some work, before
proceeding to the substance of the Cyprus problem and the four core issues,
UN Secretary General's Special Advisor Alvaro de Soto said here today.
Speaking at a press conference, hours before the start of the third round
of UN- led talks, he said the UN intend to intensify and continue the talks
over the next few months adding the Secretary General would hope that a
break in the talks, which the Turkish Cypriot leader said he would take,
would be as brief as possible and consistent with the flow of the talks
rather than any other consideration.

[07] UN envoy - Press Conference - Cyprus talks
by Myria Antoniadou Geneva, Jul 5 (CNA) -- The UN stands ready to
contribute to the Cyprus peace talks as necessary, either in procedural or
in substantive matters, UN Secretary General's Special Adviser for Cyprus
Alvaro de Soto said here today, expressing hope for progress over the next
few months towards a comprehensive settlement but within "the capacity of
the Greek and the Turkish Cypriot parties to deliver."
Speaking at a press conference, before the resumption of the third round of
talks, de Soto said the UN will attempt to bridge the gap between the Greek
and Turkish Cypriot sides as necessary and though recognising that a
comprehensive settlement is not on the cards by the end of the year, he
said that is no reason to prevent very important progress towards this
goal.
