    Nicosia, Jun 22 (CNA) -- Cyprus' Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister Nicos Rolandis has said there are excellent prospects for furthering the ties between Israel and Cyprus in all fields and particularly in the economic, trade, industrial, technological and tourist sectors.

    The Cypriot minister was addressing here last night a gathering of the Cyprus - Israel Business Association in the presence of Israel's Minister of Trade and Industry Ran Cohen.

    Nicosia, Jun 22 (CNA) -- In the academic year 1998-99 there were 1.214 educational institutions at all levels of education in the free areas of the Cyprus Republic, according to official statistics released here today.

    There were 164.548 full-time pupils/students and 11.255 teachers giving a pupil/teacher ration of 14,6.

    [04] AKEL - Palestinian People's Party - Communique

    Nicosia, Jun 22 (CNA) -- Cyprus' leftwing party AKEL and the Palestinian People's Party (PPP) have expressed their support for substantive direct talks to reach a solution to the island's political problem.

    They have also called on Turkey and Turkish Cypriot leader Rauf Denktash to abandon their "unacceptable positions".

    [05] Cyprus - Turkish President - Illegal visit

    Nicosia, Jun 22 (CNA) – Turkey and its President must understand that the continuing Turkish occupation of Cyprus' northern areas and the absence of a solution in Cyprus are an anachronism, Cyprus Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou said here today.

    The spokesman was speaking as Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and Foreign Minister Ismail Cem are paying an illegal visit to the areas of the Cyprus Republic Turkey occupies since 1974 when its armed forces invaded the island.
