    [01] George Vasiliou - Health

    London, May 11 (CNA) -- George Vassiliou, former Cyprus President, had "a good and quiet night" in hospital here, where Wednesday he underwent surgery to remove a benign tumour from his brain.

    Doctors at the National Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery told CNA this morning that Vasiliou is doing fine and had an easy night.

    [02] Foreign Minister - Cook - Meeting

    Nicosia, May 11 (CNA) -- Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides is scheduled to have a meeting with his British counterpart Robin Cook next week in London.

    Kasoulides leaves Tuesday and will meet Cook on Wednesday. Discussions will focus on developments in the Cyprus problem and Cyprus' accession negotiations with the European Union.

    Nicosia, May 11 (CNA) -- According to the Meteorological Office at Larnaca International Airport, the weather forecast for Cyprus is:

    Friday and Saturday 12/05/2000 to 13/05/2000

    The weather will be mainly fine with fresh sea breezes. The seas will be slight and temperature will range form 14 to 28 inbland and from 15 to 26 on the coast.

    Outlook for Sunday nad Monday 14/05/2000 to 15/05/2000

    Remaining mostly fine.

    [04] UN acting resident representative - Proximity talks

    Nicosia, May 11 (CNA) -- A Polish UN official is expected to take over as acting resident representative of the UN Secretary-General in Cyprus to succeed James Holger, as Kofi Annan wishes for Alvaro de Soto, his Special Adviser on the Cyprus problem to remain based at UN Headquarters, UN Peacekeeping Force (UNFICYP) Spokeswoman Sara Russell confirmed here today.

    Meanwhile, the date and venue of the third round of UN-led proximity talks on Cyprus is expected to be announced later today in New York. According to press reports the talks originally scheduled for May 23 in New York will change to June 26 in Geneva, in order for President Glafcos Clerides to recuperate from an operation to remove a polyp from his large intestine.

    [05] Spokesman - Cyprus peace talks

    Nicosia, May 11 (CNA) -- The Cyprus government has been sounded out about the convening of the next round of UN-led peace talks in Geneva at the end of June but nothing concrete has been decided yet on the matter.

    The UN is likely to issue a statement about the time and the venue of the talks, later today, and UN Secretary-General's Special Adviser on Cyprus Alvaro de Soto is expected to visit Cyprus early next month.
