by Maria Chrysantou Jerusalem, Mar 29 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos
Clerides expressed great pleasure for being the first President of the
Republic to visit the state of Israel and for having received in Cyprus his
Israeli counterpart Ezer Weizman and wished success to the peace
negotiations underway aiming at resolving the Cyprus and Middle East
problems for the good of the region at large.
The Cypriot President, who is here on a three-day state visit was speaking
at a dinner last night hosted by Ambassador Modechai Palzur and members of
the Israeli - Cyprus Friendship Association, where he also made note of the
long ties of friendship between the two peoples dating back to the early
days of the creation of Israel and to the common experience he and
President Weizman had in fighting Nazism.

Nicosia, Mar 29 (CNA) - Interior Minister, Christodoulos Christodoulou,
today received a Russian news agency RIA Novosti delegation, visiting
Cyprus at the invitation of the Cyprus News Agency.
The delegation, which comprises President Alexei Volin, Vice-President
Alexei Zintakov and Marketing Director Irina Kukseva, was accompanied by
CNA Director, Themis Themistocleous.

[03] President Clerides - Israeli President - Official welcome
by Maria Chrysanthou Jerusalem, Mar 29 (CNA) - President Glafcos Clerides
and his Israeli counterpart Ezer Weizman today referred to the two
countries' efforts to peacefully solve their problems and turn the Eastern
Mediterranean into a region of peace, tranquility, progress and
development.
Speaking during the official reception of the Cyprus President to Israel,
at the Bed Hanossi, Weizman also thanked Clerides for the wise way in which
he handled the issue of two Mossad agents, that had been arrested in Cyprus
for espionage and were let free after serving only a short time in prison.

[04] President Clerides - Knesset
by Maria Chrysanthou Jerusalem, Mar 29 (CNA) - Speaker of Israel's Knesset
(parliament), Avraham Burg, today expressed certainty that peace in the
Middle East would cover the whole region, noting that Greek Cypriots and
Israelis share common roots, as they come from the same region of the world,
the Eastern Mediterranean.
Welcoming Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides, who is on an official visit to
Israel, Burg expressed certainty that his country will be able to achieve
peace in the region, and that "the blessing of peace will shine out from
here over the entire region".
