    [01] Yugoslav Ambassador - Interview

    by Maria Chrysanthou Nicosia, Mar 21 (CNA) -- A solution to the Cyprus problem is feasible provided those who have the power show the necessary determination to press in this direction, Yugoslav Ambassador in Nicosia Pera Jankovic said today.

    In an interview with CNA, Jankovic also said he fully agreed with President Glafcos Clerides' position that direct talks are necessary for a productive dialogue, which would pave the way for a solution to the Cyprus problem.

    Nicosia, Mar 21 (CNA) -- Cyprus has been unanimously elected as a member of the Commonwealth Steering Committee of Senior Officials (SCOSO) for Asia and the Mediterranean.

    The election has taken place in London during a meeting of the High Commissioners of the Commonwealth member-states with its Secretary General Chief Emeka Anyaokou.

    [03] Cyprus - Greece - Defence

    by Rebekah Gregoriades Athens, Greece (CNA) – Greek Defence Minister, Akis Tsohatzopulos today presented his Cypriot counterpart, Socrates Hasicos, with a Greek Navy patrol boat and an reassurance that any attempt to change the status quo or question either country's sovereign rights would be met by a united front.

    Speaking at the handover ceremony, which took place at the naval port of Salamina, not far from Athens, Tsohatzopulos said that "today is a great moment for the Republic of Greece because it is able to support the defence capability of the Republic of Cyprus", by donating the vessel "Knossos", which has been renamed "Kyrenia".

    [04] Cyprus' EU negotiator - London

    Nicosia, Mar 21 (CNA) -- Cyprus' chief negotiator in the accession talks with the European Union (EU) George Vassiliou leaves tonight for London where he will address the House of Commons and have meetings with British officials.

    Tomorrow Vassiliou will meet Britain's envoy for Cyprus Sir David Hannay and have lunch with the Head of the European Affairs Department of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Nigel Sheinwald.

    [05] Industry Minister - Russia - Cooperation - High tech

    Nicosia, Mar 21 (CNA) -- Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Nicos Rolandis today stressed that cooperation between Cyprus and Russia can be of mutual benefit.

    Rolandis was addressing the two-day Seminar on "Cooperation Between Cyprus and Russia in the Context of the New Industrial Policy of Cyprus for the Development of High Technology Industries" which started today in Moscow.

    Brussels, Mar 21 (CNA)-- The Cyprus question is one of the issues that will be raised in Ankara during contacts the Speaker of the Belgian Parliament Herman de Croo will have in Turkey as part of his official visit there in mid-April.

    De Croo told CNA after a meeting here with the chairman of the Cyprus House Committee on Foreign and European Affairs Tassos Papadopoulos that the solution to the problem depends more on Turkey than on Cyprus and he will raise the matter in Ankara.
