Nicosia, Mar 11 (CNA) - Portugal assured that it unreservedly supports the
speedy enlargement of the European Union (EU) and Cyprus' accession to the
EU. The statement was made by Portugal's Minister of Environment
and Planning, Jose Socrates during a meeting with Cyprus' ambassador to the
country, Thalia Petrides.

Nicosia, Mar 11(CNA) - A high level delegation of the Party of European
Socialists (PES) and the PES European Parliamentary Group will visit Cyprus
in June within the framework of a tour of the region, to hold discussions
on the Cyprus problem. The delegation will be made up of the President of
the PES, Rudolf Scharping and PES European Parliamentary Group President,
Enrique Baron Crespo. Accompanying them will be EuroMP Jacques Poos,
Cyprus' rapporteur at the European Parliament, and other high level
officials of the European Parliament. The officials will visit Nicosia,
Athens and Ankara.

Nicosia, Mar 11 (CNA) u Members of the Ecologists u Environmentalists
Movement came close to clashing with security guards of the American
Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) following accusations by the
movement that the service is being used for espionage purposes.
At the same time, a spokesman for the American Embassy told CNA that the
FBIS is an open service and referred those interested to find out what it
does, to visit its website at www.fas.org/irp/fbis/.
