Nicosia, Feb 17 (CNA) -- Nicos Papaefstathiou is the new President of the
Cyprus Bar Association, after the elections that took place last night
during its general assembly. Antonis Glikis, Dinos Pashalides, George
Teoulides and Haris Agapiou were elected members of the Association Board.

0950:CYPPRESS:02 Eurovision - Cyprus song
Nicosia, Feb 17 (CNA) -- Cyprus chose last night the song it will
represent it in the Eurovision Song Contest, to take place in Stockholm in
mid-May 2000. A love song entitled "Nomiza" (I thought) was chosen by a 21-
member jury among eleven songs with 225 votes in favour against 184 votes
for the runner up.

1330:CYPPRESS:03 Paphos - Carmen opera
Paphos, Feb 17 (CNA) -- Cypriots and people visiting the island in
September will be able to enjoy a unique performance of the famous "Carmen"
opera with the Esthonian National Opera and main protagonists from Esthonia,
the US and Belgium, to be held within the framework of the Paphos Festival
. The two-and-a-half-hour performance, with the ancient Paphos castle as
their setting, will take place from September 8 to 11 at a cost of some 350
thousand Cyprus pounds. (One Cyprus pound trades at nearly two US dollars).

1350:CYPPRESS:04 National Council - Meeting
Nicosia, Feb 17 (CNA) -- Discussions on the Cyprus question among
parliamentary parties, comprising the National Council, were concluded here
today after each participating party had outlined its views on the matter
under discussion, Spyros Arotis, acting Government Spokesman said here
today. Arotis, who refrained from disclosing anything about the content of
the discussions, also said the Council will meet again after visits to the
island by representatives of various countries dealing with the Cyprus
problem.
