[01] House President - Clinic - Surgery - Thursday Nicosia, Jan 19 (CNA) -- President of the Cyprus House of Representatives and President of the centreright Democratic Party (DIKO), Spyros Kyprianou, will undergo surgery on Thursday at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio, USA, to repair a defective mitral heart valve.

DIKO spokesman Andreas Constantinou told CNA today that during the last couple of days Kyprianou underwent a series of examinations on an outpatient basis and was admitted yesterday for the operation scheduled to be performed by Dr. Delos Cosgrove.

[02] Monfis - President - Parliamentary Committee Brussels, Jan 19 -- Philippe Monfis, Member of the Belgian Senate, has been appointed President of the Belgium-Cyprus Friendship Association.

The Association comprises members of the Cyprus House of Representatives and members of both the Chamber of Representatives and the Senate of Belgium.

[03] Greek singer - Medal Nicosia, Jan 19 (CNA) -- Famous Greek singer Yiorgos Dalaras today received the medal of St. Barnaba, founder of the Church of Cyprus, during a special ceremony in the presence of President of the Republic Glafcos Clerides.

Dalaras was presented a medal by Archbishop Chrysostomos for his contribution to Cyprus' continuing struggle against the Turkish occupation of 37 per cent of the island's territory.
