    [01] State Department - US policy - Cyprus

    Washington, Dec 21 (CNA) -- The US has not changed its policy in recognising only the government of the Republic of Cyprus, said State Department Spokesman James Foley.

    He was replying to a question in relation to an addendum to the report of the UN Secretary-General on the renewal of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) which says "that the government of Turkey has indicated that it concurs with and supports the positions of the Turkish Cypriot party, namely that UNFICYP can operate on both sides of the island only on the basis of the consent of both parties".

    [02] Communications Ministry renamed

    Nicosia, Dec 21 (CNA) -- Cyprus' Communications and Works Ministry has been renamed to Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works.

    The decision was taken by the island's 11-member Council of Ministers presided over by President Glafcos Clerides.

    [03] US Embassy - Cyprus talks - Moses

    Nicosia, Dec 21 (CNA) -- The United States reiterated its support to the UN- led proximity talks on Cyprus under the UN Chief's auspices.

    In a statement to CNA, US Embassy spokesman Walter Douglas also said the US will monitor the second round of the talks with a team led by Presidential Emissary, Alfred Moses.

    [04] Spokesman - Second round of proximity talks

    Nicosia, Dec 21 (CNA) -- Cyprus Government Spokesman Michalis Papapetrou expressed today the view that the third round of UN-led proximity talks on Cyprus will be the most decisive one.

    He said the second round of talks due to begin on January 27 next year in Geneva, will be a continuation of the talks held in New York between December 3-14.
