[01] Heads of EU accession negotiating teams - Meeting
Nicosia, Dec 19 (CNA) -- The heads of the negotiating teams of the six
countries that opened accession talks with the European Union last year
have welcomed the Union's commitment to be ready to welcome new states from
the end of 2002 as decided during the Helsinki summit held December 10-11.
A joint statement issued by the chief negotiators of Cyprus, the Czech
Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Poland and Slovenia after their ninth meeting
says they agreed that "all efforts should be made to finalise the
negotiations at the latest in 2001 in order to make accession to the EU
possible by 1 January 2003".

[02] Cyprus - Russian citizens - Duma elections
Nicosia, Dec 19 (CNA) -- Some two thousand Russians who live in Cyprus
either permanently or temporarily are expected to vote here today for the
new Russian State Duma (lower house).
Russian cultural attache in Cyprus Sergei Skachjo told CNA the
election procedures are running smoothly, noting that "voters are standing
in line in order to vote".

[03] Greek Foreign Minister - Cyprus - Turkey - EU
Nicosia, Dec 19 (CNA) -- Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou has said
European Union involvement in efforts to settle the Cyprus problem will be
substantive following the European Council held in Helsinki December 10-11.
In an interview published today in Cyprus' largest-selling newspaper
"Fileleftheros", Papandreou also says the Cyprus issue will be part of
Turkey's political dialogue with the EU.
