[02] Policemen - Murder - Life sentences
Nicosia, Dec 17 (CNA) -- The Assize Court gave two policemen life sentences
today, in relation to the murder of Hambis Aeroporos on December 16, 1998,
while a third person will hear his sentence when his health permits it.
Policemen Christos Symianos, 37, and Savvas Ioannou, alias Kinezos, 36,
were both convicted to life in prison, after being found guilty on six
charges, including premeditated murder. Procopis Procopiou, who earlier
pleaded guilty, will be sentenced later on.

[03] PASIDY - Strike
Nicosia, Dec 17 (CNA) -- Civil servants came out on a two hour strike today
to demand greater promotion opportunities for government employees.
Civil servants' Union PASIDY has called the strike demanding pay rises
for those government employees who have reached the top of their salary
scale and are not entitled to further increases.

[04] Cyprus government - Big "5" - Clarifications
Nicosia, Dec 17 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides today asked for
clarifications from the five permanent members of the UN Security Council,
regarding the addendum to the UN Secretary-General's report on the United
Nations Operation in Cyprus (UNFICYP).
President Clerides met this morning the ambassadors of the big "5" in
Nicosia and the UN Secretary-General's Acting Special Representative James
Holger.
