    [01] Export Awards - Presentation ceremony

    Nicosia, Dec 16 (CNA) --Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Nicos Rolandis today presented the 1998 Cyprus Export Awards to the island's top exporters.

    In an address read out by Rolandis, President of the Republic Glafcos Clerides said the restructuring and technological upgrading of the island's productive sectors is a "strategic goal of the government".

    [02] President Clerides - Return from New York

    Larnaca, Dec 16 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides believes the proximity talks held in New York as well as the European Union Helsinki summit have to some extent brought about a change in prospects to settle the Cyprus problem.

    On his return today from the US where he attended the talks, President Clerides confirmed a new round of UN led negotiations will take place late January to clarify the positions put forward by the two sides in New York.

    [03] Cyprus - Energy resources

    Nicosia, Dec 16 (CNA) -- Cyprus has no commercially exploitable energy resources other than renewable, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Nikos Rolandis said here today.

    Addressing a seminar and training workshop on Biogas, Electricity and Organic Fertilizer Production from Agro-Industrial and Urban Waste, Rolandis said Cyprus has mainly solar energy, the utilization of which contributes about 4% to its total energy needs.

    [04] Russia - New Cyprus ambassador

    Nicosia, Dec 16 (CNA) -- Russia will continue its constructive contribution in the efforts to find a just solution to the Cyprus problem, President of the Russian Federation Boris Yeltsin said today.

    Accepting the credentials of Cyprus' new ambassador to Russia Charalambos Ioannides as well as those of ten other ambassadors, Yeltsin made a special reference to Cyprus noting that relations between Cyprus and Russia play an important role in his country's foreign policy.
