by Maria Myles New York, Dec 10 (CNA) -- The UN have corrected a verbal error the UN Secretary-General's Spokesman Fred Eckhard made during his daily press briefing yesterday.

Replying to a question about further detains into shooting incident near the UN-controlled buffer zone, Eckhard, in a slip of the tongue, referred to "the Turkish area of Cyprus".

Following representations by the government of the Republic, the UN revised the text and the corrected version referred to the "northern part of the island".

by Maria Myles New York, Dec 10 (CNA) -- As UN-sponsored talks on Cyprus continue here, the UN intends to wrap up this first round of proximity talks on Tuesday, 14 December.

Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides had a working lunch yesterday with US Presidential Emissary for Cyprus Alfred Moses.

Present at the lunch were US State Department Special Cyprus Coordinator Thomas Weston and US Ambassador to Cyprus Donald Bandler.

Meanwhile Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides had separate meetings with German envoy Detlev Grafzu Ranzau and Swedish envoy Kaj Falkman.
