Nicosia, Sep 27 (CNA) -- French Jean-Pierre Richelmi, driving a Procar
Subaru Impreza, mounted the victor's podium on Sunday and beat Cypriot
Andreas Tsouloftas by just over two minutes to second place. Tsouloftas
drove a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI.
Thirty seven out of eighty two cars that started the 27th Cyprus Rally
on Friday afternoon made it to the finish in Nicosia yesterday afternoon.

[02] US Ambassador - AKEL leader
Nicosia, Sep 27 (CNA) -- The US has been working very hard to prepare the
ground for Tuesday's summit between President Bill Clinton and Turkish
Premier Bulent Ecevit and hope it will bear fruit, US Ambassador to Cyprus
Donald Bandler said here today after a meeting with Demetris Christofias,
General Secretary of the leftwing AKEL party.
Christofias said he expects Washington to exert its influence on
Ankara and the Turkish Cypriot leader to help break the current deadlock in
efforts to find a lasting settlement in Cyprus.
