    [02] EU memorandum - Cyprus

    By Emilia Christofi

New York, Sep 22 (CNA) -- The European Union fully supports the UN Secretary-General's efforts aimed at Cyprus' demilitarisation, as an objective in the context of an overall comprehensive settlement, which should be based on the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

The position is outlined in a memorandum by the Finnish presidency of the EU, which was part of Foreign Minister Tarja Halonen's speech yesterday at the UN General Assembly.
