    [01] President Clerides - Televised interview

    Nicosia, Sep 13 (CNA) -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides said he is determined to make everything possible to allow the forthcoming initiative on Cyprus to succeed.

    In a televised interview in view of his departure tomorrow for Athens and New York, Clerides warned however that if the initiative fails, it will be solely due to Turkish intransigence.

    [02] Britain - Cyprus

    Nicosia, Sep 13 (CNA) -- Britain wishes to see the Greek and Turkish Cypriot sides begin direct substantive negotiations without preconditions which would lead to a settlement of the protracted Cyprus question, British High Commissioner here Edward Clay has said.

    He also said Britain has already developed its own ideas to facilitate a settlement but noted that the views of the two sides have the overriding significance.

    [03] Turkish Cypriot journalist - Murdered

    Nicosia, Sep 13 (CNA) -- A Turkish Cypriot journalist, stringer for the French News Agency (AFP), was found murdered yesterday in the Turkish- occupied northern part of Cyprus, Turkish Cypriot newspapers reported today.

    The papers said two under-age boys are said to have murdered Sertac Gorguner, 35, who worked for Turkish Cypriot daily "Kibris" and the Turkish daily "Sabah".

    [04] Cyprus rally - Participation

    Nicosia, Sep 13 (CNA) -- A total of 87 crews of which 13 from Europe and the Middle East will participate in this year's 1050-kilometre-long 27th Cyprus Rally, taking place September 24-26. The rally has seventeen special stages making up 303 of the total kilometres.

    Two of the thirteen overseas entries, Italy's Enrico Bertone and the Czech Republic's Pavel Sibera will battle it out here for the 200 points the Cyprus rally carries as a 20 coefficient in the FIA European Rally Championship.
