[01] SPORT: Panathinaikos, Benetton win in Cyprus tournament
Nicosia, Sep 1 (CNA) -- Panathinaikos, Greece's basketball champions,
doubled their wins within the framework of the Caretta Sunball Classic
tournament being held here.
The Greek team beat Partizan Belgrade 72 - 61 last night at
"Eleftheria" indoor stadium.

[02] Cyprus President - Slovak Foreign Minister
Nicosia, Sep 1 (CNA) -- Slovak Foreign Minister Eduard Kukan assured here
today President Glafcos Clerides that his country supports a just solution
to the Cyprus problem.
Speaking after meeting President Clerides, Kukan said "the meeting
confirmed the very good friendly relations between Cyprus and Slovakia in
all the fields of our mutual cooperation".

[03] Turkish settlers - Greek Cypriot - Murder
Nicosia, Sep 1 (CNA) -- A 69-year-old Greek Cypriot, enclaved in the
Turkish-occupied Karpass peninsula, was murdered on Monday night after
being abducted from a coffee-shop by what seems to be Turkish settlers.
Stelios Harpas was reported to have gone to meet someone, after a
telephone call by an unidentified person.

[04] Greek minister - Cyprus problem - Interview
London, Sep 1 (CNA) -- Greek Alternate Foreign Minister Yiannos Kranidiotis
has stated that the next few months are "crucial" for the Cyprus problem,
adding that there is an opportunity now to break the deadlock, provided
that the big powers, such the United States and Britain, will exert
pressure on Turkey.
In an interview with the London Greek Radio (LGR), after a meeting
yesterday with British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook, Kranidiotis said they
agreed that a solution to the Cyprus problem could not be a precondition
for the island's European Union accession.

[05] Cyprus FM - Enclaved - Murder
Nicosia, Sep 1 (CNA) -- The Cyprus government holds the Turkish occupation
authorities responsible for the murder of a 69-year-old Greek Cypriot
enclaved man.
Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides told the press that a
representative of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP)
was to be summoned to the Foreign Ministry today, regarding the murder.
