Speaking to journalists at the Presidential Palace after a brief meeting with President Clerides, Chrysostomis said he had resigned "for reasons of dignity".

He said President Clerides accepted his resignation.

Serezis told the press that he had repeated his resignation in writing to President Clerides, who has accepted it.

Earlier today, Defence Minister Yiannakis Crysostomis announced his resignation "for reasons of dignity", as he said.

Regarding the government reshuffle President Clerides was having consultations with the parties participating in the government, the ruling Democratic Rally and the United Democrats.

President Clerides met with Democratic Rally party President and Acting President, Nicos Anastasiades and Panayiotis Demetriou.

Later he had a meeting with United Democrats President, former Cyprus President George Vassiliou.
