    [01] President - Cruise - Return

Nicosia, Aug 6 (CNA) -- President Glafcos Clerides has abandoned his cruise around the Greek islands after a "mechanical fault" on his yacht and returns to Cyprus by air on Saturday, one day earlier than scheduled.

President Clerides left Sunday for a week-long cruise aboard his yacht "Kaiti II", which ran into trouble off the coast of Rhodes.

The President, who is continuing his holiday in Rhodes, will fly to Cyprus tomorrow Saturday.

    [02] Ministers - Meeting - Pyla

Nicosia, Aug 6 (CNA) -- Interior and Foreign Ministers, Christodoulos Christodoulou and Ioannis Kasoulides, today discussed problems faced by people living in Pyla village, which is inhabited by both Greek and Turkish Cypriots.

The meeting took place at the Interior Ministry, with the participation of Pyla community representatives.

Speaking after the meeting, Christodoulou said the matters discussed, including water supply and garbage disposal, must be handled with care due to the special circumstances in the village.

He also said that it is the Greek Cypriots who are paying these expenses in Pyla and that the Turkish Cypriots are aware of this.

Christodoulou added that the government would compensate this amount, which is not very high.

Pyla, in the east of the island, is one of two villages in Cyprus inhabited by both Greek and Turkish Cypriots and is controlled by the UN as it is in the buffer zone.

Turkish Cypriots in this village have access to the areas of Cyprus occupied by Turkish troops since they invaded the island in 1974.
