Beijing, Jun 7 -- Cyprus President Glafcos Clerides, who is on a state visit to China, visited today the Great Wall.

He was accompanied by first lady Lila-Irene, three ministers and other top government officials.

Later today, President Clerides and the first lady will be given an official welcome to China by President Jiang Zemin.

The welcoming ceremony at the Great Hall of the People, will be followed by private meeting between the two presidents and official talks between the two delegations.

They are expected to focus on international issues, such as the Kosovo crisis and the Middle East problem, the Cyprus question and bilateral relations.

Signing the VIP Book at the Great Wall, President Clerides described it as "one of the great marvels of the world and a great tribute to the people of China".

The President and Mrs Clerides were briefed on the history of the 2000- year-old Wall.
