1515:CYPPRESS:01[01] House President - Russian AmbassadorNicosia, May 24 (CNA) -- Russian Ambassador to Cyprus, Georgi Mouradov, said today the G8 group (seven most industrialised countries plus Russia) has not yet decided on the final wording of a text on Cyprus, expected to be adopted during the group's summit next month in Cologne.Speaking after a meeting with House of Representatives President, Spyros Kyprianou, Muratov said that Russia "insists that the text should include a reference to the decisions of the UN Security Council on Cyprus". Asked if there are different views on the matter, he said: "I did not say that, I said that we insist on this reference". The Russian Ambassador also briefed Kyprianou on the Yugoslavia peace effort and reiterated his government's position that first of all the bombing must stop. Mouradov said a letter by the Chairman of the Cyprus-Russia Friendship Group regarding Cyprus' compliance with the European Union embargo against Yugoslavia and its repercussions on bilateral relations was in fact an expression of concern by some MPs. He said he would send a letter to the Chairman of the Group to explain that there is no serious problem here. Mouradov had visited Kyprianou to invite him to take part in an international meeting of former foreign ministers, to be hosted by Russia in July, to discuss international developments. Kyprianou said that he accepted the invitation. Earlier today, Mouradov met with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ioannis Kasoulides, with whom he exchanged views on the Yugoslav crisis, the Cyprus problem and other current matters. Tonight, the opening ceremony of the 8th games of the small states of Europe will be held in Liechtenstein. The games end on Saturday. Cyprus will participate with athletes in various games, including swimming, squash, cycling, judo, ping-pong, shooting and track. CNA RG/MA/1999ENDS, CYPRUS NEWS AGENCY1555:CYPPRESS:03[03] Foreign Minister - ToursNicosia, May 24 (CNA) -- Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ioannis Kasoulides, departs on Wednesday for the Netherlands and Denmark for meetings with his counterparts.Kasoulides' meetings, held after a recent tour of other European capitals, aim at promoting the views of the Cyprus government on the island's political problem and its European Union accession course. He will also discuss bilateral relations, the situation in the Balkans and trade relations between Cyprus, the Netherlands and Denmark. Kasoulides is also scheduled to meet with parliamentarians and give a lecture on the Cyprus problem. He returns to Cyprus on Saturday. The Minister will also visit Pretoria to attend the installing ceremony of the new South African President, after the elections to be held on June 9. CNA MM/RG/MA/1999ENDS, CYPRUS NEWS AGENCY1700:CYPPRESS:04[04] Cyprus International Fair - ResultsNicosia, May 24 (CNA) -- The Cyprus State Fairs Authority, the organiser of the 24th Cyprus International Fair which closed yesterday, describes its results as very satisfactory.Sixteen states and the European Union participated officially in the Fair, while companies from another 17 countries also took part. The total number of participating companies reached 1.200, according to the Authority. Speaking to CNA today, Cyprus State Fairs Authority General Manager Takis Kallis said that according to preliminary reports "the vast majority of participants are very satisfied with Fair". He said the Fair attracted 150 thousand visitors, five thousand less than the 1998 Fair, which, however, was open to the public for one additional day. Participating states, such as Nicaragua, have secured agents for their products, Kallis noted, adding that the bulk of the transactions were related to furniture, construction materials, aluminium products, packaging materials, foods, drinks and plastics. "Prospects for the exportation of those products to Greece and the Arab states are very good," he added. Referring to Cyprus' imports , Kallis said they include mainly electric appliances, new cars, computers and mobile phones. The Authority General Manager said that all of the participating countries have signed on to take part in the 25th Cyprus International Fair, which will open on May 26th 2000.
