[01] Popular Bank - New Managing Director

Nicosia, Dec 18 (CNA) -- Marios Lanitis has been named Managing Director of the Cyprus Popular Bank.

Lanitis' appointment was made at the suggestion of the Bank's Executive Chairman Kikis Lazarides.

According to a Popular Bank press release, Lanitis' appointment takes place within the framework of the Group's effort to enter the 21st century as a more dynamic and efficient organisation.

Lazarides will devote more time to strategic planning and expansion, in view of the globalisation of the economy and the island's future accession to the European Union, the press release said.

Marios Lanitis, 45, son of the Group's founder, Evagoras Lanitis, has been member of the Board of Directors of the Popular Bank since 1992 and executive advisor since 1996.
