He was also scheduled to meet leaders of the island's political parties. He also said that his party, that is now represented in parliament, will exert pressure on the new German government so that it demands the unconditional implementation of UN resolutions on Cyprus. Modrow pledged the Party of Democratic Socialism will also promote Cyprus' EU accession. "No obstacles should come up in this procedure, such as the settlement of the Cyprus problem before Cyprus' accession. We cannot accept this," he said. The German politician said he discussed with President Clerides the latest developments in the Cyprus issue and the President informed him on initiatives undertaken for the implementation of UN resolutions on Cyprus. He described the situation in the Mediterranean region as complex, noting that more effort is needed in the peace process between Israel and Palestine. The four ancient tombs, which are in the house, in the verandah area and in the garden, were found during the renovation and restoration work done and have been preserved. Europa Nostra, a pan-European organisation whose network comprises over 200 non-governmental organisations in the field of conservation, aims at the protection and enhancement of the architectural and natural heritage, the encouragement of high standards of architecture and the improvement of the environment. The two-storey house was given the award for the good preservation work done, with the use of traditional materials, methods and constructural details. According to Europa Nostra the preservation of the four tombs is an excellent example of how archaeological sites in private property can be preserved. The Antiquities Department believes the tombs, that were pillaged, are part of the Ayioi Omoligites ancient necropolis dating to the Hellenistic period.
